  • Blog’s Not Dead

I’m just too damn busy with everything—organizing my life, school matters, a little bit of work, and, of course, play. Heh.

For the past month, I’ve been back playing Ragnarok Online since my cousins told me LUGpRO already has a free-to-play server. I remember the last time I played, Comodo is still new—and that was years ago. While I leave my merchant vending at Payon Town (170, 83), I chat, surf, check my mail, get updates on my online earnings, and download and watch the latest HD fansubbed episode of MS Gundam 00.

I don’t know if I should blame this to my About page, but my professor in ECE 206, and the coach of UST ECE‘s GIQC team knows I have experience regarding quiz bees. He picked me as one of the team members. Help me God—I’m a bit rusty after 4 years without such mental pressure. And, now, it isn’t only about IT we’ll be dealing with like the last time I entered such contests.

School itself has been tough, too. I’m just glad even though I couldn’t help but sleep on some—OK, almost all—of my lectures, I could still catch up on the lessons. I currently have a favorite major subject, which is rarely the situation as they are usually hardly fathomable. Guess what subject it is—yep, it’s Computer (Comp 304). Thanks to whoever taught me logic gates during high school. Now, I understand why 1 + 1 = 1 is true—you go figure. n_n

I think I have one more month to go until I buy my first product of blogging. Earnings are coming steady at around US$200 per month. Should I call myself a problogger now? Not yet still, IMO. I believe I have to improve on my update frequency. Heh. Well, I’m planning to buy an ASUS Eee PC. I know two friends who already have their 4G version. I’m still waiting for the 8G’s release.

Now, that’s the roundup of the last 1~2 months of my life. I hope I could get back to blogging more frequently. I haven’t even checked my bookmarks in about a month already. T_T

Partial list of things to do:

    • Read updates within the last month from Engadget, TechCrunch, Gizmodo, Slashdot, XKCD, etc.
    • Update my WordPress theme; minimize AdSense clutter—they don’t sell much anyway.
    • Update my WordPress installation—2.4 is coming soon and I’m still not on 2.3. o_O
  • Movie Freebies Galore

After losing to the Transformers T-shirt raffle, and not being able to participate in the Happy Potter and the Deathly Hallows alternate ending contest that turned out to be just a book raffle, I knew I just have to take the chance on this one. Besides I’d really like that dog tag.

Yuga is onto another raffle contest. This time, it is about the third installment of the films based on Ludlum’s Bourne series—The Bourne Ultimatum. He would draw a combination of three countries where the film was shot, and anyone who has chosen that specific combination wins. So, everyone, gather up your luck and choose the three countries you think would go to Yuga’s hand during the draw.

    Prizes to be won include:

    • a black “The Bourne Ulitimatum” cap; and
    • a David Webb dog tag replica.

There would be two raffles, just check out his post to know more about it.

Good luck to me … for the dog tag!

  • Transformers

    Transformers
Electrical Engineering. Devices used to transfer electric energy from one circuit to another, especially a pair of multiply-wound, inductively-coupled wire coils that effect such a transfer with a change in voltage, current, phase, or other electric characteristic.
film. A 2007 live action film directed by Michael Bay starring Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox.

Ok, ok … I won’t be talking about my past EE lessons here. I’ve just watched Transformers with my uncle and cousins yesterday. I must say it was great! The action scenes, camera angles, and effects are just astounding—thanks to Michael Bay. The realism put into the mecha CG animation was amazing as well!

I really cannot comment about its deviations from the original animation storyline,[1] though, for I was just a little kid when I’ve watched it. Nevertheless, it really caught me with my mouth open for the mixed comedy and action it brought on the table. I really liked the scenes where Sam Witwicky was trying to catch Mikaela Banes’ attention that Bumblebee started playing on its radio songs super fit for the scene. It was a laugh trip! 😆

BTW, Sir Abe announced about 10 hours ago that he is giving away free Transformers T-shirts! And this post serves as my entry. (email address: ajalapus at ajalapus.com)

Aside from Bumblebee,[2] I really like Starscream. Since the F-22 Raptor is also my favorite, there isn’t really any competition. I think he was the one who got me interested in watching Transformers in the first place. Add to that Starscream’s agility being capable of transforming mid-air—being disguised as one of the allies, he then transforms jumping from one Raptor to another. Oh, the deceit! 😉

    Footnotes:

    1. ^ If there is any.
    2. ^ Who is probably the majority’s favorite.
  • Ituloy Angsulong Spam

I’m sorry, I just have to rant about this.

Don’t get me wrong—I have nothing against Marc Macalua‘s Philippine SEO Contest dubbed Ituloy Angsulong, even though I really do not know the purpose of having a certain key-phrase pointing to your Web site where that phrase isn’t even about what you passionately blog. But the prize money is so good, I have even thought of joining the first contest (Isulong SEOPH), though I was ineligible for they do not accept the participation of those using old domain names.

From my understanding, the goal of the contest is to produce the top ranking page on the SERPs of Google, Yahoo! and MSN search engines with the term Ituloy Angsulong. Sounds easy, right? I thought about ways to win it for no reason at all [since I am not participating]. Then it came to me that with WordPress, one of the most used blogging platforms to date, automatically including rel="nofollow" on comment links, and the fact that I don’t participate in public forums makes it really hard [at least] for me to win it. Another thing is my hatred for spam that I most probably won’t comment with the key-phrase unless it is on topic.

Now, why would someone comment on one of my non-SEO related entries with the term Ituloy Angsulong linking to their contest entry URI? I guess it’s someone who’s so desperate to win. It seems to me that no one else hates spam more than I do. I’m thankful Akismet really knows spam—even if it is made by real people. Aren’t there rules about the contest not to spam anyone? Just a thought. I hope Marc Macalua could answer me with this. Please note that I check my Akismet spam list at least five times a day. Oh, I’m so glad it caught yours! Yes, I’m talking to you, Marhgil Macuha.

If you still can’t figure how Akismet knew what to block then you’re really a dumb ass. It’s spam—not the one I love to eat.
